Candles and glass tray

Today is Quebec’s National Holiday and thus a day off! I’ve spent the day so far attempting to put things in order around my place, and taking extra time in the shower. I thought I would take the opportunity to show some things I’ve been loving lately.

I have had a growing obsession with candles since last winter. I never used to like any sort of fragrance, not even perfume, which I don’t wear, but I have found that I could tolerate a good scented candle. I don’t own the fancy Byredos and Dyptiques of the world — just a mini Dyptique Mimosa candle — because they are just too expensive for my budget, but I love what I currently own. Two of my favourites, displayed on this tray, include Voluspa’s Eden and Pear which has a crisp and bright scent, and Aquiesse’s Sandalwood et Vanille, which smells just as lovely as it sounds. I just love walking around Chapters or Indigo (Canadian bookstore chains) and looking at and smelling their candle selection while my boyfriend browses for photography books.

Beauty Favourites

I have mentioned before that I am quite a bit of a beauty product junkie. I love to test out stuff, much to the detriment of my skin, so I have been slowing down lately. I do find my very problematic skin — acne, discoloration, hyperpigmentation, sebum, you name it — to be the best it has been in years thanks to the addition of two products in my routine. Mario Badescu’s Vitamin C Serum contains ascorbic acid to even out skintone and reduce discoloration, which is a big problem I have had for a long time. I have been using this every other night on my skin right after toning and it’s really brightened my skin. Indeed Labs’ Hydraluron is the next thing that has been a real skin saviour for me lately. I am a big fan of Caroline Hirons’ blog and she highly recommends this product. As soon as I have found out that Hydraluron was sold here in Canada, I ran out to buy it (and luckily, it was on sale!). Despite my combination-oily skin, my cheeks and the space between my brows are always, always dehydrated and I have the hardest time keeping the dry patches and flakes at bay. This hyaluronic acid gel really boosts up my moisturizer and has made my skin positively smooth like a baby’s bum! My skin is not perfect yet, but I feel much more confident at the moment.

Other products I have been loving include Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, a total indulgence since a lip scrub like this can be reproduced at home with brown sugar and coconut oil. I just cannot resist its delicious smell! I have also picked up NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, which has been really popular in the blogosphere, and it has lived up to my expectations so far. Really hydrating, it’s perfect for covering (flat) blemishes and marks and the under eye area. Last but not least, Josie Maran’s Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée in Poppy Paradise has been my go-to blush since I’ve gotten my hands on it. Cream blushes rarely work on me due to my oilier skin, but this one stays put for hours and looks so natural and pretty.

Chanel Le Vernis in Frenzy and Taboo

Aside from beauty products, I am also quite obsessed with nail polishes, but have stopped buying them since I feel like I have most of the colours I would ever want. My two most recent additions are from Chanel, Frenzy and Taboo. Frenzy has quickly and easily become one of my most favourite nail colours of all times, it is just so chic and versatile. As for Taboo, I find it so special and unique.

What have you been loving lately, and what has made you happy?

such beautiful photos 🙂 i love your “scent” tray display !

a few of my recent favourite products include: weleda’s wild rose eye cream, applied after using the antioxidant eye serum from sukin (the latter isn’t moisturizing enough on its own; either it helps boost weleda’s eye cream effects, or it’s completely useless… i’m not too sure!) and sukin’s replenishing night cream.

i’ve been in the mood to try all sorts of new products lately (although i really should stop spending…). i regret not getting the josie maran blush today! i’ll get it when i go back to sephora to return that bumble&bumble hair product….!!! dewy, summer flushed cheeks…. do want. i just don’t know which tone i should get…

    thank you!

if you have to boost your serum with another cream, i would deem it a little useless, no? i mean, unless it boosts your eye cream on top… haha. 😉

oh trust me, i’ve been through that and i’m still trying to stop myself! i can’t stop recommending that josie maran blush i think you’ll love it!

Nice photos indeed! Reading your post, I remembered all the makeup products I purchased and haven’t had a chance to try yet! I’m also waiting for my lips to get better and try the new summery lipsticks I bought…and why not help the process with some homemade lip scrub with my recently purchased coconut oil? Thanks for reminding me! 😉

Your pictures are so beautiful! I used to read your LJ back in the days. It motivated me to buy nice clothes for myself. Now my closet can hardly contain them all. 😉 Thanks for making me fashionable. You seem to live in a beautiful place too! You know how to accessorize! That little bunny there is to die for!

Those candles seem so nice – those scents sound divine!
Recently I’ve been loving the Bananas and Baobabs hand cream by Shea Terra.
My hands are usually dry and this cream is fantastic for them! It’s so creamy!

This is seriously one of the nicest comments i’ve ever, ever received, so thank you so much!

I always have dry hands as well, from overwashing most probably, so I love hearing about great hand creams!

I as well recently learned about Hydraluron from Caroline Hirons. And I live in Canada as well and winter is approaching..may i know where did you actually purchase the hydraluron?

  10. 09/6/2013Christine says:

Hi there! I got Hydraluron from Shoppers Drug Mart! It’s in the skincare section, in the area where the Yes to Carrots products usually are (and not with the higher end skincare stuff as I thought). It’s about $25, though I got it on sale for $20! Hope that helps!

I love the white rabbit bowl ring holder you have, can I ask where it’s from?

Unfortunately I bought it at Winners/Marshall’s a little while back and don’t know which brand it’s from either! I found a similar one here and here Hope that helps!
